We're proud to share some exciting news from Grand Forks, BC. Our team has successfully completed the largest water reservoir tank base in our company's history - an impressive industrial-grade concrete structure measuring 80 feet in diameter.

"Our previous record was set in March 2021, when we constructed two 72-foot-diameter reservoir bases in Langford, BC," says Don Moore, owner of Moore and Sons. "It took us over 5 years to surpass that and it is something we're incredibly proud of."

He adds, "There was a time when 20 - or even 40-foot concrete bases felt massive. Projects of this scale - an 80-foot slab - still leave us impressed."

This milestone builds on a history of ambitious projects.

"When we built two tank bases in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, in August 2025, each measuring 60 feet in diameter, we completed our largest single concrete pour at the time - over 400 cubic metres in one pour," says Richard Collins, a foreman with Moore and Sons.

"This new 80-foot slab is now the largest-diameter project we've ever undertaken."

This project was no small undertaking. It began with the excavation and removal of approximately 500 tonnes of material, requiring 35 tandem dump truck loads. The team then installed 8-inch and 10-inch underground piping in accordance with detailed engineering specifications.

Following that, an 8-inch layer of road base was placed and compacted to 99.5% density, verified through nuclear density testing. The next phase included forming and installing rebar for the grade beam. After inspections by both city officials and engineers, a 30-cubic-metre concrete grade beam was successfully poured.

The concrete was protected overnight with insulated tarps to ensure proper curing. Once ready, the crew removed the inner formwork and completed infilling with road base for the central slab. After two additional compaction tests, rebar installation began for the main slab.

The final stage brought it all together: a 165-cubic-metre concrete pour to complete the massive base.

An outstanding effort from the entire crew - delivering precision, scale, and excellence while making it look easy every step of the way.
