Moore & Sons recently completed a beautiful, large 1,800 square feet concrete driveway in Aldergrove, BC, featuring a smooth finish and integral charcoal colour. But before we could build this charcoal beauty, there was one very large obstacle standing directly in our way: an old tree stump measuring more than 6 feet in diameter, with a massive root system extending even deeper to 8 feet.
The homeowners wanted to relocate their driveway and give it a more attractive layout with beautiful sweeping curves. There was just one problem—the good old stump was sitting right in the middle of the planned driveway!
Well, there was no chance we were going to let a stump stand in the way of a new driveway. Led by Richard, our crew dug, chiselled, cut, pulled and finally hauled the massive stump away.
Once the stump was gone, the rest of the project could finally take shape.
We began by removing the old front entrance and replacing it with new concrete steps that flow seamlessly into the new driveway. The driveway was then connected to the municipal road with a new asphalt driveway extension.
But the driveway was only part of the homeowners' front-yard renovation. Our crew also dug trenches for new electrical services, excavated a massive rock pit for a well-water overflow drainage system, and constructed a concrete pad for a new generator.
The project also included new automated swing gates, which were installed by an independent gate installation company hired directly by the homeowners. Our part was to build two new concrete block gate posts that would later be wrapped in cultured stone to match the stonework on the house.
Once our posts were built, we coordinated closely with the homeowners' gate installation company to make sure our work and theirs came together seamlessly, with everything completed properly and without a hitch.
And with a project of this size, there is inevitably a lot of excavator traffic and truck tires crossing the surrounding lawn. We weren't about to leave the yard looking like a construction site, so we finished things off by installing 4 inches of turf-blend topsoil to help restore the surrounding lawn.
The homeowners have since given our work a 5-star Google review, which really says it all. We're always happy to see another satisfied customer added to the list—and this time, that list grew by two more names!
From one enormous stump standing in the way to one beautiful charcoal concrete driveway, this was quite the transformation.
