Our crew recently replaced an old concrete patio in South Surrey - one that was likely over 30 years old and, as the homeowner described it, "ancient." In its place, we installed a beautiful new exposed aggregate concrete slab.

This decorative concrete finish reveals the natural stones and pebbles within the mix, creating a textured surface that's not only visually appealing but also ideal for high-traffic areas. Its excellent slip resistance makes it especially practical in wet conditions, such as around pools.

At first, this project seemed like just another routine job - until demolition began.

As we started removing the existing patio, we discovered something unexpected: a second 4-inch concrete slab underneath the first. In other words, when the patio was originally rebuilt, the contractor never removed the original slab from 1973 and instead poured a new layer of concrete right over it. To make matters even more challenging, the original slab contained 6" x 6" welded wire mesh, making demolition extremely difficult.

But challenges are part of the job. We tackled the double slab head-on, jackhammering it piece by piece until both layers were completely removed. Once cleared, we properly prepared the base, installed the necessary drainage lines, reinstalled the block stairs with new caps, and poured the new exposed aggregate concrete.

The final result left both the homeowners and our team thrilled. "You guys made a very challenging job look easy," our customer told us. And nothing beats the genuine satisfaction of a happy client.
