Homes built in the 1970s often come with solid bones - but their original exterior features don't always age as gracefully. That was certainly the case with this Crescent Beach home in South Surrey, built in 1971, whose broom-finish concrete driveway had clearly seen better days.
Moore & Sons recently completed a full driveway transformation, replacing the tired concrete surface with a brand-new 1,100 sq. ft. paving stone driveway. The original driveway, now over 30 years old, was riddled with cracks and sunken areas - clear signs that it had reached the end of its lifespan.
The project began with the complete removal of the existing concrete driveway. We also excavated and hauled away approximately 4 inches of substandard base material, replacing it with a new, structurally sound foundation designed for long-term performance. Once the base was properly graded and thoroughly compacted, the real craftsmanship could begin.
We installed 12 pallets of medium-sized, tumbled charcoal pavers, laid in a classic herringbone pattern. A matching border in the same size and colour was added to frame the driveway, giving it a clean, cohesive look that complements the home beautifully.
The result is a durable, visually striking driveway built to withstand South Surrey's coastal climate. With proper installation and materials, this new paving stone driveway is expected to perform - and look great - for another 30 years or more.
If you're considering upgrading an aging driveway, this project is a great example of how thoughtful design and quality workmanship can completely transform a home's curb appeal.
