We just wrapped up another driveway transformation in beautiful South Surrey — but this one came with a surprise twist... and a very proud homeowner!

The original driveway, built in 1981, had seen 44 long years of wear and tear. Cracks from old tree roots, sunken spots, and an uneven surface made winter snow shoveling more of a battle than a chore. So we got to work.

At first, it seemed like a standard tear-out and rebuild. But as we dug deeper — literally — we raised our eyebrows. Beneath just one inch of river sand, we found soft topsoil. That's a serious no-no in our industry. About a quarter of the driveway needed to be excavated a full 12 inches to reach stable ground.

Once we hit the right soil, we installed a premium road base and compacted it thoroughly, especially in the deeper areas. From there, forming and pouring the concrete was smooth sailing. We completed the new 17' x 60' driveway, entrance area and walkway with two flights of stairs, on time, built to last for decades to come.

But the real highlight? As we removed the forms, the lovely homeowner, Mary Lou Rust, stepped out onto her new driveway, stood proudly at its center, and struck a pose — arms wide like she was showing it off to the whole world!

"This driveway came with the house when it was built in 1981," Mary Lou told us. "Big tree roots had cracked it, and it had a lot of sunken spots. In winter, it was a nightmare to shovel — my shovel would catch every time on the uneven concrete."

"They did an amazing job here," she added. "We're thrilled with how it turned out, especially considering how much work went into digging and rebuilding the base properly."

Thank you, Mary Lou, for the kind words and the unforgettable driveway debut! All of us at M&S are proud to have given your home a fresh start — and we can't wait to see your new driveway support many more years of life, memories, and movement.
